SATURDAY NOV 21ST 1000  97 DAYS AND 22 HOURS TO LET'S GO DAY
AND UNDER VOTED ON,  OUR NEW SLOGAN AND MISSION STATEMENT, DEEP CREEK PARK NEWS
The big topic of discussion so far this off season has been the And Under change. PONY last year allowed it's associations to choose whether they wanted to play the traditional two year age groups or adopt the And Under way of playing.  And Under would mean that kids in the 2nd year of their age group would be allowed to play up into the next age group IE a 10 year old 2nd year Mustang player would be allowed to play with the 11 & 12 year olds in Bronco.  The Board would like to thank everyone who weighed in on the issue. People expressed their views via a web poll, at the fall general meeting and via E-mail and phone calls. We as a Board voted by division. We voted to allow 6 year old T-ball players to move up to Pinto and for 14 year old Pony players to move up to Colt once the Pony season and High School season ended. For the other divisions we voted no.  Now this doesn't mean that evey 6 year old will be moving to Pinto. We still have to come up with the guidelines for this. It may be by a try out or by parental consent or any number of things. I will keep you posted here on Derek's news. If you would like to express your opinion on how we should decide which 6 year olds should move up please call me at home at 558-4208. As for the 14 year olds moving up we did this last year so the guidelines are already in place. Again thank you to all who weighed in on the issue. Even though we may have disagreed with each other we expressed our views and showed how much we all care about DCBA and our kids.
Did you see our new mission statement and slogan on the home page. The 2010 Board came up with these and we hope it will allow the general body to understand what DCBA is all about.  DCBA still stands for Deep Creek Baseball Association but is also stands for Developing Children Beyond Athletics. Please go back to the home page and read our mission statement which can be found in the top left corner. Let me know what you think. Send me an E-mail with your opinion. My E-mail address can be found on the BOD (Board of Directors) page.
I am going to bring you Park updates evey now and then. Now these won't be official updates. You can find those on the main page. As a mattrer of fact there is one there now. Our Secretary Paula Faivre and her husband Scott were instrumental in getting this park built so they get the official news from the Parks and Rec Department and from the Parks and Rec Advisory Board. So look there for the officail stuff. But I live in Sawyers Mill housing development which is right beside the new park, as a matter of fact my street borders it. So my updates are going to be more lke this. They laid the dirt for the first infied today, how exciting!!! Now that didn't happen yet but I wanted to let you know what to expect. So here is my first update. There are lots of vehicles entering and exiting the site as contractors look the property over to submit their bids. It is very exciting seeing activity on this land knowing that it will all lead up to new fields for our kids.
I will try and write another Derek's News before Thanksgiving.  Thanks for reading along.

TUESDAY NOVEMBER 10TH
IT'S GOOD TO BE BACK!!! ONLY 109 DAYS UNTIL LET'S GO DAY! THANKING OUR VETERANS
I wasn't sure if I was going to come back as the Commissioner this year but after some incouraging E-mails from many of you and some converstions with a few of you I am back for another year. This year will be the 53rd season for DCBA and I think it is going to be the best yet. I for one am really looking forward to it. I certainly won't be writting every day during the off season, but I will try and write once a week. If you are so inclined I would love to have you click on Derek's news now and then duirng the winter months and read along. I will bring you updates on what is happeing in the league and I will cast a few disparaging remarks toward my beloved Pirates, the hated Hokies and that School up north which in my house is a four letter word. As a matter of fact since there are 4 letters in that schools name I gues they are a 4 letter word in every house. I will try to make it not only informative but entertaining. Thank you for allowing me to be the Commissioner once again in 2010.
Speaking of 2010. There are only 109 days until Let's Go Day. What is that you ask? That is the day our kids showcase their talent in front of our managers and the day we hold the draft, hand out the equipment and announce who is on what team. The date is Frebruary 27th and it is the official start of the season! 109 days can't go fast enough!!!! I am ready now!!!! Let's play some ball!!!!
Tomorrow is Veterans day. Many of you reading this are Veterans or are serving on active duty. We have not only many veterans and active duty servicemembers in DCBA but a great number of military spouses and Military "Brats". Brat is a good term by the way! We are lucky to have so many in this area who have served or supported those of us who have served. I want to say thank you very much to each and everyone of you for your service to our country. And to the family members, well you have the toughest job of all. Thank you for what you did and continue to do. When I was on recruting duty I had a poster up in the window behind my desk. It was a quote form President Kennedy. It's about the Navy but it applies to not only Sailors but Marines, Airman, Soldiers and Guardsman. President Kennedy said "Any person who may be asked what they did to make their life wothwhile can respond with a great deal of pride and satisfaction. I SERVED IN THE UNITED STATES NAVY"!
