**IMPORTANT EQUIPMENT MESSAGE BELOW** 8/7/09

ATTENTION ALL MANAGERS & COACHES!  posted 5/6/09

It is YOUR responsibility to get your field ready for your game - especially if it has been raining.  Please do not expect someone else to come to your field to prepare it for you!  It is very important that we get all games in when possible & we need you to make every effort to PLAY your game not cancel it.

Thanks for your help!!

Background Checks

Just a reminder that we do perform Background checks & run every Manager & Coach through the National Sex Offender registry as required by the city.  If you are a Manager, please make sure your coaches turn in the required form on time!  Also required for your team mom's &/or anyone on the field side of the fence who has direct contact with the kids.

This is required by the City of Chesapeake for all volunteers who work directly with the children.
Manager Application Form

Turn this form into Derek Bennett BEFORE your coach/team mom begins!

Attention All Managers
- If you do not turn in your equipment at the end of the season, it could affect your ability to manage or coach a team going forward.  Please understand that we appreciate everyone of our mangers & coaches but all equipment belongs to the league and must be returned on time.  Thank you for your cooperation!

**Update: All managers have been notified by their player agents that this Saturday 8/8/09 is the last day to return your equipment.  The equipment belongs to the league, it is not yours to keep, even if you plan to manage Fall Ball.
After 8/8/09 seniority will be affected & the cost of equipment will be added to your childs registration fee's at the next registration.  NO ONE wants to make such crazy demands, but it is YOUR responsibility to turn in your equipment on time and for most of you the season ended 2 months ago.  Please do the right thing & turn in the leagues equipment to Brian Ritzer immediately.  He will be at Treakle 8/8/09 (again) from 10-12pm.

The following note is offered from PONY Baseball (not DCBA)

Aspects of Good Coaching:

Here are some suggestions. Some are common sense but others have to be worked on a little.

 · Be firm but fair when it comes to discipline.

· Demand promptness in yourself and your players.

· Be positive when giving instruction or offering constructive advice.

· Do NOT be overly concerned with your Win-Loss record. The success of your players' development is not dependent on your wins and losses.

· Make the evaluation and opinion of your players yours, not a combination of other coaches, parents and outsiders. You have the first-hand knowledge of them so don't let popular opinion sway your thinking.

· Learn to delegate responsibility to your assistants.

· Communicate with your assistants.

· Demand that your players hustle at all times.

· Do not allow profanity.

· Do not allow the throwing of equipment.

· Your coaches going to the coaching boxes should run, not walk. Set a good example.

· All coaches should be in the game on every pitch. Be alert for all mistakes made on defense; i.e. positioning and mental errors. When a coach comes to realize that baseball is played one pitch at a time, an entire new world opens up for him and he becomes much more effective.

· Use your voice during games. It is an asset and your players are used to hearing it. Don't become mute when the game begins.

· Teach

Make sure all of your Coaches & your Team Mom have completed the required Volunteer form!

if you tell me that helps you - I will do it.  Anything you want posted online I will do that for you.
DO YOU WANT YOUR OWN SITE?  We have them for those that want them - they are FREE and linked directly from the DCBA site (Team Pages).  Just email me & let me know how I can help you.  I really am trying to put as much info as possible on the site to help you & your parents!

Equipment Reminder!

Please be careful with the equipment we have.  Some items have been damaged, broken and equipment is expensive.  We appreciate every single volunteer - but please encourge everyone to be considerate with the equipment we have because replacing it is not always an option.
